New Bennett Community Playground located in Southwest Detroit: The first for Detroit
January 15, 2005 - Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Detroit
Like the article in the “About Children Magazine”, from Children’s Hospital of Michigan stated. “Although there was a giant ribbon wrapped around the shiny, new Little Tikes® playscape, the energetic children from Bennett Elementary School in southwest Detroit could not resist sneaking under it to explore their new playground”.
That is why the children could not wait for the playground to be complete. They saw their playground transformed from dirt, rocks and glass to the beautiful playground that they helped build. In one way or the other, all 585 students helped, from selling $.50 candy bars to raise money for the playground to unloading sod, filling buckets with fibar and spreading it under the swings, and planted shrubs and plants, all with the help of 50 plus members from Allstate. The children and Allstate members worked hand and hand with the children. What a great Day.
