Federico E. Vaca, MD, MPH, FACEP

Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine, Injury Free Coalition for Kids of New Haven

Dr. Vaca is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Yale University-School of Medicine. He was a previous Medical Fellowship at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington D.C. The focus of his research has been to investigate and better understand the racial and ethnic disparities in traffic-related morbidity and mortality. He has continued to study traffic safety in a cultural context with a sociological and public health perspective in order to identify protective behavioral determinant as well as risk factors that would inform the development of effective clinical contact and community-based intervention strategies. Dr. Vaca has served on several national expert panels directed by the National Academies of Science and the Transportation Research Board, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Safe States Alliance (formerly State Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
