Safety Store at Children’s Neurodevelopment Center
Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Providence
Through support from Safety 1st, the Injury Prevention Center (IPC) and Children’s Neurodevelopment Center (CNDC), have partnered to pilot test a Safety Store initiative which will provide families of children with disabilities or special health care needs injury prevention education and appropriate safety equipment. In 2009, CNDC staff will recruit and enroll 300 families into the pilot study. CNDC clinicians and paraprofessionals will conduct an injury prevention assessment with families as part of their standard home assessment and will provide them with injury prevention education and free injury prevention equipment, when appropriate.
This pilot study will measure parental perception of injury hazards within the home and use of home safety equipment. It is expected that findings from this study will support the development and implementation of a free standing Safety Store within Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
