Diabetes/Obesity Awareness Prevention Program (DOAPP)

Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Cincinnati

Diabetes & Obesity Awareness Prevention Program (DOAPP) is a program that promotes healthy eating and physical activity among Avondale youth at Rockdale Academy and South Avondale School. DOAPP, a partnership with CincyAfterSchool, Hughes Center High School, and Children’s Hospital, takes place during CincyAfterSchool two days per week for one hour each day at the respective school sites. Peer educators from the Hughes Center Health Professions Program deliver easy to understand lesson plans and activities that help students learn to make more healthy choices on their own. The peer educators work hand in hand with elementary school children to make the concepts more relatable. Periodic parent sessions are offered to teach parents how they can help their child have a healthier lifestyle by encouraging physical activity and making more healthy food choices when shopping and cooking.
