TIE ONE ON… FOR SAFETY UTHSCSA AND MADD MOBILIZE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON TO REMIND DRIVERS NOT TO DRINK AND DRIVE

The Tie One On For Safety campaign promotes safe driving during the holiday season. The campaign asks motorists to tie a red MADD ribbon to their vehicles as a pledge to drive safe and sober and a reminder to others to do the same. This year, the South Texas Injury Prevention and Research Center is organizing campus-wide participation in the campaign among UTHSCSA faculty, staff and students. “There are several ways to personally support the campaign,” said Michelle Price, director of the injury center. “You can tie a MADD ribbon to your vehicle as a symbol of your commitment to drive safe and sober and always designate a non-drinking driver if your outing involves alcohol. Also, be a responsible party host: Never serve alcohol to those under 21, offer non-alcoholic beverages, serve high-protein snacks, and provide alternate transportation or accommodations for guests who have been drinking.” Ribbons will be available for pick-up in the lobby of the main campus as well as other campus locations from December 2-6.
