Truman Medical Center-Hospital Hill (TMC-HH) Trauma Service, site of Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Kansas City, along with Maternal Child Health and Interpreter Services Departments partnered to host the 3rd Annual TMC-HH Baby Shower. There were five baby showers held during the weeks of February 10th and 17th. This was in conjunction with Nationa Child Passenger Safety Week.

This event spotlighted expectant mothers delivering at TMC-HH. In order to establish knowledge level, the participants were given a pre-test on child passenger safety. Tiffiny Strever, Injury Control & Outreach Coordinator, then taught a presentation on the basics of child passenger safety, followed by a demonstration on how to properly restrain an infant in a child safety seat. In addition, participants received printed information on child passenger safety. After a question & answer session, the particpants took a post-test which overall indicated learning comprehension. A poster display and discussion on home safety was also presented.

A total of 62 womaen attended the baby showers, prepresenting 4 languages. Interpreters from TMC-HH Interpreter Service provided translation for Spanish, Somali and Arabic. Each mother received a baby book, donated by TMC-HH Volunteer Services, an infant car seat, donated by IFCK of KC and an Allstate "Safe at Home" bag.
