Injury Free St. Louis worked with Missouri Safe Kids Coalitions and to develop a state wide task force coordinated public campaign to increase awareness about preventable childhood injuries. The site gave 150 home safety bags to families of patients under the age of 5. The bags included outlet covers, cabinet and drawer locks, bath thermometers and doorknob covers.
Green Be Injury Free shirts were given to all Joint Practice Partners to wear on Injury Prevention Day, but they weren't the only ones wearing green. Saint Louis Children's Hospital floors/units that care for injured patients were encouraged to wear green and send pictures of the staff. Those photos were posted throughout the day and the green didn't stop there. Injury Free St. Louis and its partners will delivered "green goodies" to unit floors. Among other things those goodies included green masks and treats.
Be Smart, an Injury Free St. Louis community partner will be handed out gun locks on Injury Prevention Day. They looped in community neighborhood partners to promote National Injury Prevention Day through community volunteers, their Facebook pages and through relationships with their churches and aldermen.
Awareness was also raised with several television news stories and newspaper articles.
KMOV television News ran a story about hospitals teaming up to raise awareness about injury the need for Injury Prevention and Introduced National Injury Prevention Day. The story covers Firearm Injuries, Home Safety and a Gun Lock Giveaway being done at St. Louis Children's. Link to story.
The FOX2 New Now Morning Program had Dr. Lindsay Clukies on as a guest where she was able to talk about the need for National Injury Day and share information about the most prevalent injuries in St. Louis and ways they can those injuries can be prevented.

St. Louis Hospitals and the BSmart organization teamed up to spread the news about National Injury Prevention Day in the Webster-Kirkwood Times newspaper. It is an electronic and print paper with a circulation is over 38,000 for section of the paper.

Injury Free St. Louis and Be Smart took part in the hour long twitter chat and their efforts and the need being addressed were acknowledged with a proclamation from the Mayor. Efforts of Injury Free St. Louis were also included in social media from St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Ferris Wheel, the Magic House, Science Center, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital and they all shined a green light.
