Program/Event Details:
Charlie's House was the host for this year's injury prevention activities focusing on reducing the risk of injuries and fatalities related to house fires and injuries occurring in and around the home. Partners included the Kansas City Fire Department, Mid America Head Start Parent Advocates, Safe Kids Johnson County, Mid-West Trama Society, BeSmart, and Safe Kids Greater Kansas City. The day kicked off at 5:45 a.m. with local Fox 4 Matt Stewart interviewing Stuart Kauffman, Charlie's House Executive Director and Phyllis Larimore during two very early morning news sessions. Parents and Visitors toured Charlie's House with Kansas City Firefighters and the CMH Burn Team providing prevention and burn/scald first aid assessment and intervention messages. Visitors received a safety packet of safety devices to reduce the risk of falls, burns/scalds, poisoning and firearm safe storage. Staff and visitors viewed and participated in the IP Webinar and the national Twitter Chat. Attendance: 50 Lives touched: 250 Safety kits distribution: 10 to parent advocates and visitors New and strengthened partnerships: IKEA, Charlie's House, Mid-West Trauma Society, Mid America Head Start, Operation Breakthrough, Safe Kids JOCO, and YMCA
