Program/Event Details:
Grandparents: Getting Started is a three-hour course designed for grandparents caring for young children. Taught by certified Safe Sitter instructors, participants will learn how to provide the best and safest care for their grandchildren. They will also learn the latest information on how to safely care for infants and children and how to manage the behavior of children of all ages, in addition to life-saving skills such as choking rescue, first-aid, and injury management.
Co-taught the GGS class with Gia Ramsey, from Maimonides Medical Center. We had 9 participants, all of whom had or were caring for grandchildren. After practice, the participants were all able to correctly demonstrate the life-saving skills and there was plenty of time for Q & A.
Co-teaching G:SS resulted in a strengthened partnership with MMC and a new partnership with the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults.
