Community Programs and Events

Program/Event Details:
Staten Island is the only New York City borough not connected to the subway, which means most residents get around by driving. In fact, car ownership is the highest in Staten Island where cars are owned by 83 percent of all households. Many families on the island's North Shore are underserved and low-income but must also rely solely on cars or car service to get around. Car services charge for child restraints, if they provide them at all, which means many children may ride unrestrained. There is a great need for portable car seats, so children do not ride unrestrained. The BubbleBum Travel Booster Seat is a cost-effective, lightweight, portable, inflatable booster seat designed for children aged between four and 11 years old, with a weight range of 40-100lbs.

Being able to provide easily carried car seats to the low-income families at our pediatric clinic and fitting station, will lessen the financial burden for these underserved families in our community and encourage car safety. We plan on distributing the potable car seats to qualifying families at both our monthly car seat check events, as well as at our pediatric clinic, which serves many low-income children. We distributed the BubbleBum car seats during NIPD week and will continue to distribute them throughout the month of November and until supplies run out. We are on track to deliver over 20 seats to 20 families in the month of November. By suppling portable car seats to families in need, we have strengthened our ties to the community and helped provide a means of safe car transport to the children in our community.

Dates and Times:
On or before the month of November, 2023. We plan on distributing the potable car seats to qualifying families at both our monthly car seat check events, as well as at our pediatric clinic, which serves many low-income children. Seats will continue be distributed while supplies last.
