Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pale of water, Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after.

Through the age-old fairy tale of Jack and Jill, Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Detroit educates children on the importance of wearing their helmet. In our story of Jack and Jill, Jill was riding her bike up the hill with her helmet on, and Jack was not. The story very graphically illustrates how a child’s head can be injured. By using a specially designed egg helmet, Jill sustains no injury from the fall, and Jack without his helmet, cracks.

Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Detroit also conducts several helmet fittings throughout the year. In the picture, Barb Schwenn is preparing to fit a helmet to a child’s head. She also explains to parents the difference between the “fat” and “skinny” pads
