The AllState Home Safety Workshop aims to educate parents of young children about the dangers that exist in the home and ways to prevent injuries. The workshop is directed towards parents of young children and lasts approximately one hour. The presentation consists of a brief questionnaire/survey, narrative using overhead slides and a question-and-answer period.
During the Home Safety Workshop, families will receive:
- A survey of current home safety knowledge and safety practices
- A review of why children are at high risk
- Identification of injury hazards in the home including fires, burns, drowning, choking, poisoning, falls, cuts and bruises
- A description of how to use safety devices to reduce risks of injury and increase childhood safety
- An Allstate “Safe at Home” Bag
The AllState “Safe At Home” Program Educational bag contains:
- Bath thermometer (to check for safe water temperature)
- Choke Tube (to check toys and other objects to see if they are choking hazards)
- Cabinet Locks (to childproof the kitchen and/or bathroom)
- Outlet Covers (to childproof electrical outlets)
- Soft Spout Cover (to protect child’s head in the tub)
- Smoke Alarm (to alert family about fire and/or smoke in the home)
Also included:
- Home Fire Safety Plan
- Informational brochures about Home Safety and Childproofing the home
- Instructional insert regarding the sponsors and use of box contents
- Magnets and/or stickers with emergency, hospital and poison control phone numbers
- Safe At Home Safety Tips Magnet
