Stop the Falls A city-wide effort to organize a community coalition and reduce the risk of window falls among children.
Kids’ Safety Team Funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation to implement and evaluate an innovative program to provide car seat checks at the time of a pediatric visit.
Safe on Foot Using our trauma registry data to map pedestrian injuries in both Woodlawn and Washington Park communities near the University of Chicago Children's Hospital, identify “hot spots” and work with the community to identify solutions.
Washington Park Youth Programs Provides mentoring, tutoring, art programs, computer classes, science activities and health services to youth in inner city Chicago
Burns Analyzing our trauma registry and burn unit data to characterize the most common types of child burn injuries (contact, scald, etc.) for the Woodlawn and Washington Park communities, then direct interventions to reduce them.
Huckleberry Park Playground/Urban Youth Cafe In working with community residents, community leadership, the Chicago Park District, and Parkreation, we were able to construct a beautiful playlot structure to prevent and minimize injuries to children age 5 and under. In an effort to build on the successful community organization effort of the playground and to extend injury prevention to older children, we are assisting a community organization in establishing an after-school tutoring and leadership development program which has been named the Urban Youth Cafe (UYC). UYC will operate Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Christ Way Baptist Church locate across the street from Huckleberry Park.
