Our Center, as part of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids® has partnered with the Allstate Foundation to create home safety bags containing materials that parents can use to make their homes safer.

Twenty expectant mothers participated in our first annual Baby Safety Shower, held on September 18th. This event was co-sponsored by CIPC as part of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids and the Allstate Foundation. The Baby Safety Shower affords mothers-to-be a special opportunity to learn about childhood injury prevention, child passenger safety and home safety. At the end of the shower and luncheon, provided by Ralph’s Grocery Company, participants received a complimentary infant car seat and Allstate Safe at Home Bag as a gift from the Allstate Foundation. Every day, more than 39,000 children are injured seriously enough to require medical treatment,” said Robert H. Barge III, vice president of the Allstate California Region. “Experts have estimated that as many as 90 percent of unintentional injuries can be prevented. That’s why we’re proud to support REI’s Childhood Injury Prevention Center."

In 2003 our promotoras also began teaching home safety classes to parents of children involved in the Risk Watch curriculum in the Harbor Areas of Los Angeles County. After attending two two-hour classes and completing a home fire escape plan parents received an Allstate Home Safety Bag for their home. We are very excited to add this home safety component to our promotora curriculum.
