The Promotora Program, Spanish for Promoter, is a model used to conduct educational outreach in our Latino communities. The Childhood Injury Prevention Center first employed the program early in 2002 with funding received from the Office of Traffic Safety. The program was expanded in 2003 with support from the Home Safety Council and the CA Kids' Plates Program. The Promotoras have been recruited from the communities of Hawthorne, Lennox, and Wilmington. They have been trained and now conduct classes in pedestrian safety, vehicle occupant safety, home safety, and alcohol and the underage drinker for parents at local schools. They also assist with the expansion of the Risk Watch program.

Incentives for completing a series of our classes include a child passenger safety seat and a home safety kit. We’re very excited to say that our Promotoras have waiting lists of parents in both communities wanting to take their classes!
